Day 189, of my 2016 sketch a day challenge

Sea Pea sketch

The flora on Kessingland beach is fantastic and so far during this year I have drawn many of the plants as they have come into flower, there are indeed so many I am struggling to keep up with them. One of our specialties is the Sea Pea (Lathyrus japonicus) and I love the spade like alternating leaves and purple/blue flowers.

Marram Grass sketch

Day 187 and a sketch of the Marram Grass (Ammophila arenaria). These dense spiky tufts of grass are at their peak of splendour with flowering stems. These are an important perennial species as their root system helps to stabilize the sand dunes.
