Wall Barley sketch
A very busy day painting in the studio so quick dash out for a sketch. A very common grass which everyone is familiar with is this Wall Barley or False Barley (Hordeum murinum), this one growing in Kessingland.

Down at Southwold on the Rive Blyth at the end of the harbour fishing for shore crabs. Today was one of those days when I knew exactly what i wanted to sketch so went armed with string, bacon and bucket. So I made my husband catch me some crabs to sketch, we didn’t feel lonely today as we join the many other families who were on both the Southwold and Walberswick sides of the river.
Common Blue butterflies up on the grassy banks of the beach cliffs and in the Marram Grass were enjoying the mornings good weather. The males are striking sitting there with their blue wings open whilst the females are more difficult to spot with their mostly brown wings. Both sexes look the same when they shut their wings and you can only see the undersides and I love the way they alternately move their rear wings up and down.
These blackberries flowers (Rubus fruticosus) are a delicate pink rather than the sometimes white petals. Already there are some blackberries starting to fruit. These are very prickly.
On Covehithe beach just north of Covehithe broad looking north towards Benacre. This is a favorite place of many to walk under the ever changing cliffs that are constantly being eroded by the waves that pound at high tide and especially during storms.
