Week 20, 2017 Colour sketch challenge

Benacre Beach

I visited yesterday and felt sure I had the view that I wanted to paint. I returned today and the different light that was so inspiring the day before presented a different scene today, it is strange how that happens. However at Benacre Broad there is always inspiration for me to find and the trees that have fallen from the eroded cliffs and lie on the beach still remained my interest although I had to re orientate to find the right light. It was a windy but sunny day and I had to use a bungy rope to anchor my easel to a piece of tree to prevent it being blown away.

Week 19, 2017 Colour sketch challenge

River Waveney, Bungay

This view is from the banks of the River Waveney between the Staithe and Falcon bridge in Bungay. A view across the river where the main subject is the little rowing boat moored up in the water, the water itself is deep green being in the shade of the trees. No kingfishers but a visit from a mallard withe a large brood of very young chicks.

Week 18, 2017 Colour sketch challenge

Covehithe Bridleway

A beautiful bridleway that runs from Benacre to Covehithe. At the Covehithe end is a fantastic Bluebell wood that is fenced to keep deer out and the Bluebells are stunning at the moment. The path continues and opens out farmland and the meadow that was full of sheep and the stunning 2 Oak trees that seem to bend into each other to form a single mass. The path finally joins the road by Wood Farm Barn.

Week 17, 2017 Colour sketch challenge

Spring sky

With a beautiful blue and cloudy sky I was looking for Swifts as the Swallows , House Martins and Sand martins are already are here. Alas no sign of them yet although it occurred to me that even without them it was a beautiful subject and so it became the subject for week 17.

Week 16, 2017 Colour sketch challenge

Southwold seascape

A rather dull and slightly cool Saturday morning down at Southwold looking out across the sea.

After a few weeks of warmer spring weather this is feeling a little more like winter and this is reflected by the darker grey sea. This makes you realise how much the sea responds to the weather.
