“Belties at Carr farm” YANA day 20 of 100o

A wonderful morning spent with Nicola and David Chapman at Carr Farm. Tucked away on the marshes of the River Waveney at Burgh St Peter, South Norfolk they have a herd of Belted Galloway which are the subject of today’s sketch. It was wonderful to hear Nicola talk with such passion about the breed she loves and why they rear these belties. Unlike many of the more commercial breeds Belted Galloway mature much more slowly on a bio diverse grazing marsh with no concentrate producing a fine grained beef of high quality and taste.

Apart from the Belted Galloway herd they also rear Norfolk Geese for the Christmas market and I shall be drawing these at a later date.

Check out Carr Farm.

“Bringing in the wheat” YANA day 19 of 100

I was out last night in the beautiful evening light, deep in the Waveney valley somewhere near St James South Elmham. At this time of the year the farmers are working round the clock and these were busy with 2 combines several tractors and trailers whilst behind was a bailer. Here we have the combine with a tractor and trailer along side while the wheat was being augered to take away. It’s a dusty old job too as the combine cuts it leaves a wake of dust obliterating the landscape behind.
