Whilst at Manor farm Hickling on our farm tour we came across David out in the meadows setting mole traps. An old countryman from West Suffolk. A lovely old chap and another unusual activity out in the farms.

“Amy’s pet cow Patches and her calf” YANA day 48 of 100
I had the pleasure of visiting James and his family at their farms in Hickling this morning. He gave me a great tour of his farm and marshes. His farm of over 500 acres is mixed arable, chickens and some cattle. James contacted me after seeing me on Look East where I mentioned about owning a pet cow when I was a young girl. So it was most appropriate that we were accompanied by his young daughter Amy and that today’s drawing is of her pet Simmental “Patches” and her calf which were grazing on the NWT marshes which the farm adjoins.
Tomorrow will be an early start so chinagraph pencils all sharpened ready as I will be hanging my prints ready for the Norwich Print Fair which starts on Monday.
“The work of the millwright” YANA day 47 of 100
Tim Whiting is Suffolk’s only millwright and one of a handful in the United Kingdom. Originally trained as a cabinet maker Tim became a full time millwright in 2011. Tim has worked on restoration and maintenance of many Suffolk and Norfolk wind and water mills including Horsey, Thorpeness and Herringfleet. Today I met Tim inside Saxstead Windmill.
