“Traction engine and rack saw” YANA day 64 of 100

I had an all too brief visit to Henham steam rally yesterday. I had seen David and his rack saw a few weeks earlier at the Brampton plough day so it was nice to see him again and to have a great chat.

David was sawing a trunk of speculated beech into thick planks which will later be turned into cutting blocks.

His rack saw was being driven by belt from a 100 year old traction engine.

“Just let me have 5 minutes peace and quiet” YANA day 62 of 100

Mum was happily resting in the straw while her 5 large piglets were playing together until they decided they wanted their mum but mum stuck to her guns. These wonderful pigs were at Clink Care Farm at Toft Monks. Thank you for letting me visit and showing me around the farm.

As a care farm they combine the care of the land with the care of people. They offer opportunities for people to help out on the farm. Because of the natural therapeutic environment, this can aid people’s recovery and even be a preparation for employment in the farming sector or other industries. The care farm also provides an alternative to daycare by offering many meaningful activities on a working farm.

I hope that a few drawings will result from this visit.
